This is one of my best sellers. I have built this mirror out of a hard to find wood called "Curly Cherry". Curly cherry comes from the same log as regular cherry, however what makes it so rare is there is often less than one board per log that comes from each log. Curly cherry is an enjoyable wood to work with. It machines very well and the grain tends to jump out at you. After sanding to 150 grit sandpaper, I rub on a wood conditioner. Then I spray on several coats of a satin polyurethane. No stain. This makes the natural grain really pop out!
Again, I used mortise and tenon joinery, however with this mirror I used what is called a "double tenon". See photos. I have a piece of equipment that is extremely accurate to the thousandth of an inch, literally. It far exceeds all other equipment out there. I know, I' ve used the other equipment I am very proud of this glue joint and this method of joinery. It is the perfect example of "using todays tools with traditional arts and crafts methods". Also shown in quarter-sawn white oak.
