This is a gorgeous wall/ mantle mirror I have built out of "Cherry". Well constructed using mortise and tenon joinery as usual with all of my mirrors. A glue joint that I guarantee will never fail. The vertical members (the stiles) are 3/4" thick as well is the shelf itself. The horizontal members (the rails) are 5/8" thick. This difference gives the frame an eye catching character called a "reveal". Check out my photos to see the results. The shelf is about 4" wide by 36" left to right. Measurements of the entire piece are 36" wide by 22" high. The mirror is a beefy 1/4" thick!
After sanding every segment to 150 grit sandpaper I hand-rub on a wood conditioner to ensure that the stain is absorbed evenly. Then I hand-rub on several coats of a Natural Cherry stain followed by several coats of a satin lacquer, sanding lightly between coats. This gives it a very smooth to the touch finish.
This is a sharp mirror that can warm up any room in the house. Hang it in any entryway or above the fireplace mantle and you will notice an added serenity to your home.
