Here is a mission style
wall mirror I have built using a unique glue joint called a "lap" joint. I cut a large notch in the horizontal member (the rail) and also cut a large notch in the vertical member (the stile). They interlock into each other like a puzzle and with a little glue form a joint that will never fail, ever. I also pegged the joint using black walnut pegs which give it added strength and character. A very fun joint to build - visually unique and extremely strong.
I have stained this piece using a Minwax "Early American" stain. After staining I spray on several coats of stain polyurethane polishing with steel wool between coats. This gives it a glass like smooth finish.
Measurements: 31.5" by 14" Each member is 1" thick! The mirror itself is a beefy 1/4" thick!
