Nandina
$199
The "Nandina" is actually a modified version of the Stickley #66 frame built at the turn of the century. I modified Stickley's measurements to 36" wide by 13.5" high. Perfect for over the fireplace. I use as always techniques used by Stickley and others. Mortise and tenon joinery. I have also pegged the tenons for added character and strength. Take a look at the close up photo and you can see how the tenon will fit perfectly into the mortise. I can adjust this glue joint to fit within a thousandth of an inch, literally. With a little glue this joint becomes rock solid and it will never fail, ever.
I used quarter-sawn white oak and a stain called "Dark Walnut". After several coats of this stain I spray on a satin shellac giving it a jade like smooth finish. The wood used in these photos is typical of all the wood I use. Outstanding tiger striping. Outstanding piece. Built to last a lifetime.
